A Little Rest and Now Spring Quarter
I made it through finals week! I had my Pentateuch and Medieval & Reformation Church History finals on the same day. My Penta final was in the morning and I spent about 3-4 days studying for it. I had to do a pretty well, relative to my last mid-term, to pass the class. I was pretty worried I wasn't going to pass so I devouted a lot of time and energy to it. After taking the final, I felt pretty good about it but I won't know my grades until second or third week of school. By the middle of the Medieval final I was running out of energy. I was so tired from studying so intensely I just wanted to be done with that final. I really enjoyed my history class. I've found I've been able to recall so much from it. I love history and have missed being in a classroom environment studying history. After those two finals, I had a paper due for my Current Trends In Islam class, which I think I did okay on and then some assignments left for my Ethnicities class. I finally finished everything the weekend following finals. I was happy to be done.
Allison and I went to watch the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells one Saturday. That was fun because we had a day together away from LA and got to watch some awesome tennis. We saw James Blake defeat Nadal, the teenage tennis sensation. We also watched Maria Sharapova defeat Elena Dementieva in the final for women's singles. That was a neat match to watch. Allison and I have also taken to playing a tennis video game on the XBOX against each other. We both created our own characters and use them to play versus each other. That's been a lot of fun.
Last week, I did a mixture of catch up on chores and relax. I did things like network the printer in the house (thanks to Clement for the help), cleaned the bathroom and my room, cooked and tried ti take care of stuff around the house since everyone else in the house did so much because I was so busy with school last quarter. I was happy to give them a break. I also got to play golf twice! I played an executive 9-hole course and an 18-hole par-3 course both in Long Beach. The 18-hole course was so much fun! I didn't think I could have such a great time playing such a short course. I think I think I had eight pars and one birdie.
My birdie came on the 14th hole. It was only 50 yards to the hole cut in the front of the green but all over water. I hit a half sand wedge, which bounced on the front fringe and rolled onto the green to about six feet from the hole. It was an uphill putt from left to right. I hit it and it broke left to right and landed straight in the cup! It was awesome! I think nowadays playing par-3's is enough for me. Playing a regulation length 18-hole course takes too much time.
I also did some shopping for my upcoming hospital internship. I bought a few new shirts and ties to go with them. I got some help from Allison on it. I think if I had gone by myself I would have just bought blue shirts and ties. Instead, I got a green, white, and red shirt. I think they'll look pretty nice.
Sunday after church, Allison and I went to go and visit her dying grandfather. His condition is quite sad as he's slowly dying. He's in his late 80's and has been on a more rapid decline this past year. It was tough seeing someone in that kind of condition. He's not expected to live through these next two weeks.
And now, I'm back to school. I'm signed up for Gospels, Perspectives on Christ and Culture, a philosophy class taught by Fuller's President Mouw, and my hospital internship. It should be good. I'm also thinking about dropping my Gospels class so I'll have more time to focus on the hospital internship as I'm considering becoming a chaplain after I gradute. I'm really excited about the experience of working in the hospital this quarter. I'm hoping this internship will show me whether or not it's for me.
